Serving as UAFP board president this past year has been a meaningful opportunity to step back and see family medicine in Utah from a broader perspective. Most of us spend our days focused on patients, clinics and teams. This role created space to connect across those settings and better understand both the challenges and the strengths of our specialty across the state.
Recently, our associate director, Barbara Muñoz, spoke with a family physician who had completed residency one to two years earlier but had not renewed their membership with UAFP. When Barbara asked why they had chosen not to rejoin, the physician responded, “I don’t like that UAFP endorses Republicans.”
