Maryann Martindale A s Heraclitus said, “The only thing that is constant is change,” and the Utah Acad- emy of Family Physicians has seen significant change in the past few months. As the new Executive Director of UAFP, I am excited to help direct the future of the organization. I would be remiss in not acknowledging the good work of long-time executive director, Jennifer Dailey-Provost, who left UAFP last fall after being elected to the Utah State Legislature. My journey to UAFP was indirect. I be- gan my professional career in the cor- porate sector, working primarily in tech and publishing while managing large numbers of employees, being respon- sible for multi-million-dollar budgets, and presiding over communication and public relations efforts. After 20 years, I finally decided to make the move to where I had been passion- ately volunteering and filling in with my spare time — nonprofit work. I first joined Planned Parenthood of Utah, after which I began my five-year tenure at Alliance for a Better Utah as their first executive director. I am excited about the future of the academy. The work our academy is do- ing ranges from our CME & Ski, that provides a fun educational opportunity, but also has the potential to be a signifi- cant money-maker for us, to our legisla- tive work, where we help craft and pass legislation that serves family physicians, improve practice management, and also address issues that impact the general health and welfare of our patients. Joining me on this journey is our new Program Director, Barbara Munoz. I had the opportunity to get to know Barbara several years ago and have been consistently impressed with her knowledge, creativity, commit- ment, and compassion for helping others. Barbara has spent the past decade working in the nonprofit sec- tor and brings a wealth of experience and great ideas to our programmatic work, and is an invaluable partner in our joint efforts. I look forward to getting to know more of you and working with you to grow the practice of family medicine.
