Awards F. Marian Bishop Award of Excellence Utah Academy of Family Physicians Outstanding Senior April 16, 2018 Peter M. Sundwall, MD Family Physician of the Year: Dr. David E. Robinson D r. David E. Robinson was awarded the 2018 Utah Family Physician of the Year by the Utah Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Robinson graduated from the Wash- ington University School of Medicine in 1979 and completed his Family Medicine residency at Good Samari- tan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizo- na. Dr. Robinson has worked at Com- munity Health Centers, Inc. at 1365 W 1000 N for over 30 years, serving patients in the northwest neighbor- hood of Salt Lake City and providing meticulous, compassionate care. Dr. Robinson is fluent in Spanish and has even been known to compose and perform witty Spanish ballads as he plays the guitar. He is known for his humility, hard work, and willingness to say what he thinks in order to ben- efit others. He is widely known as an astute, thorough clinician with excel- lent diagnostic skills. Of his inpatient skills, an admiring ob- stetric attending from the University of Utah Hospital has been known to say, “I think the likelihood of a woman having a vaginal delivery is best de- termined by Dave Robinson’s clinical opinion that she would.” Doing full- spectrum obstetrics for most of his career, he is known as a master with the birthing curve and clinical exam. He has made and shared the most of his applied experience. Dr. Robinson has served the Method- ist Church community for as long as he has been in Utah, including medi- cal missions to Mexico and being “doc of the day” for the church. He is an avid runner, treads up the hills of Mill- creek at least three times a week trail running, and loves to ski when there are not too many people on the hill. He is proud of his family; his son is a neurolo- gist at IMC and his daughter a pharma- cist. Dr. Robinson credits his Spanish fluency to his wife, Aura, who has taught him everything she knows since the day they met while he was on a medical school rotation in Guatemala. They have one grandson and are expecting two more in the coming months. Dr. Robinson has instructed a few generations of medical students, resi- dents, physician assistants and nurse practitioners and will always put the patient first, help you when you need him, and share wisdom from his in- credible bank of knowledge. Congratulations, David, for inspiring generations of doctors and for being our example, teacher and friend! www.UtahAFP.org | 12
