Dr Robinson and Wife Sean Peterson Poster Award 2018 Annual Meeting F amily physicians in Utah had a lot to celebrate at this year’s Annual Member Meeting. First, a warm welcome to our new Program Director, Barbara Bassett, who joins the UAFP after nine years with the American Cancer Society. Working for health care providers and patients has been Barb’s job for a long time and we are pleased to have her on our team. Wel- come Barb! While our Annual Meeting is technically the place where we conduct our official business, which may sound a bit dry, but we are happy to report that we have continued our five-year trend of improved financial health, in- creased membership numbers, and a focus on enhanc- ing our activities and member services. We celebrated the third successful year of our CME-n-Ski conference, held in Park City, Utah (scheduled for February of 2019 – watch for details), and it was an honor to welcome AAFP President, Dr. Michael Munger who provided updates and insight on the state of Family Medicine in the United States. He also swore in our newest Board members, and welcomed our new President-Elect, Kyle Jones, MD, FAAFP and our new Treasurer, Chad Spain, MD onto the Executive Committee. Dr. Nicole Clark, after taking the oath of office, has also begun her term as our Academy’s President – many thanks to Nikki for leading the UAFP into an ever-stronger future. Other highlights of the evening included: • Honoring Dr. David Robinson with the Utah Family Medi- cine of the Year Award, presented by Dr. Sarah Wool- sey and Dr. Saskia Spiess. Dr. Robinson has served the communities of northwest Salt Lake City for years as a Community Health Center physician, and has mentored and taught a multitude of primary care physicians and health care staff. • Celebrating the many years of advocacy and support of retiring Representative Rebecca Chavez-Houck, who has been a stalwart supporter of improved patient access to care and to the benefits of a robust primary care environ- ment in our state. The UAFP was pleased to present Rep. Chavez-Houck with the 2018 Advocate of the Year Award. • Resident physician, Dr. Sean Peterson was presented with the poster award that he received in February at our CME- n-Ski. His timely and critical research and presentation on opioid abuse was informative and insightful. Dr. Sarah Woolsey presented the award and honorarium on behalf of Health Insight Utah. As ever, we are so grateful to our members. We look forward to our future of celebrating successes, and focusing on the ever increasing importance of Family Medicine and primary care in our health care system and our communities. www.UtahAFP.org | 10
